How does a Seabin work?

A Seabin is a floating rubbish bin that removes pollution from the water's surface. Each unit uses a submersible pump to draw in up to 1.3 million litres of water per day, skimming the top 10mm of the water column.
As water flows through, the Seabin intercepts plastic waste, microplastics, fibres, oils, and fuel residues in a removable catch bag that holds up to 20 kilograms. Operating 24/7, it provides a simple yet effective solution for cleaner, healthier waterways.
Smarter Cities, Cleaner Oceans.

Identify Hotspots
We assess pollution hotspots and deploy Seabin technology accordingly.

Assign Technicians
Environmental technicians empty units daily and take data samples.

Process Data
Marine scientists and analysts process and manage data.

Enable Volunteers
Volunteers support data collection and citizen science programs.

How we monitor ocean health.

Only dry lab data is used for reporting, with a Pollution Index rating from Pi1 (excellent) to Pi11 (toxic).

Data collection, storage, and analysis are handled by a Data Manager at the Ocean Health Lab.

Custom software enhances data entry, management, and reporting for precise monitoring.
